At 12 we began working.
We had a 6 man production team to work on the documentary a few of us had planned prior to arrival.
SUDDEN TEAM MEETING!
We began the meeting by going over what we had already planned. He is a picture of a few notes I had quickly made the weekend before.
After we had covered this, 2 of our members went off to film cut-aways. I think they were getting bored of talking and wanted some action. Splitting into smaller teams means we can get more work done. While they filmed cut-aways we talked more in depth about what we wanted to film, how we were going to edit and questions for interviews. I really enjoyed this meeting. It was very independent and very professional. I felt like I fit in to the meeting, rather than just nodding to what others were saying. I also liked how casual it was. I was drinking Dr Pepper from my Watchmen mug. It was like I was sat at home.
After a quick lunch we grabbed our equipment an went to film our interview. Due to this being a work place, the farmer wasn't available straight away. We booked a meeting with the farmers son in the afternoon and one with the farmer for the next morning. While we waited for the farmer's son we filmed more cut-aways. Some of the animals and some of the surrounding landscape. The interview went well. The shot was well framed and our sound man assured us that the audio was fine. After the interview we continued to explore the surrounding area and film cut-aways. You can never have too many. Unfortunately the cloud cover was thick and we couldn't get the shot of the sun set I was hoping for. Ah well... We hope to get the sunrise instead.
In the evening the barn was turned into a mini cinema. Firstly showing a short art film by Andy Warhol. I didn't really get what it was about. Just some faces looking into a camera. I'm sure there is a deeper meaning that 'us youngsters' wont understand. A musician then played . His stage name, Pictish Trail. The footage kept playing behind him as he played. It sort of matched with some his music. It was like a flashback/family video scene in a film. His music was great to listen to and he was funny to talk to. He had some wonderful musical ideas and was clearly talented.
Justin Wiggan. The sound artist. The visiting lecture showed us his 30-40 minuet performance. I didn't see it as art and it really weirded me out. People were leaving. Looking back at it though, I see the creativity and hard work that has been put into this. Referring to the cave painting theory, I would say this is a Buffalo. A very abstract buffalo.
We tried to watch The Dark Crystal but it was getting late. We decided to got to sleep. It's been a busy day and we plan to be up before the sun. Normally I end the day on online, so I feel kind of odd ending it a cupboard bed...
6:35AM
Not a great nights sleep. I'm too big for that bed. It's raining heavily and it's still pretty cloudy. I don't think we can get the sunrise we are wanting. Back to sleep.
7:50AM
Re-awoke to a 'good' breakfast, I'm a bit of a fussy eater so I wont complain. We then went to interview the farmer. We asked him the same questions we asked his son the day before. It looked very professional and news worthy.
We then decided to interview a few students about their experience. It was totally on the spot. We were just killing time. I don't think the footage is that good as we were rushing a little bit.
Extra stuff.
